Big Meal

It seems a long time coming but this is Michael’s first production since leaving the RSC. It is contemporary American , covering the sixty year span of a family’s life in ninety minutes and whizzing through the generations as pairs of actors of each age group play fathers, mothers, daughters. sons and grand children . It has been fascinating to costume as certain character traits have to pass up the generations and yet the actors don’t leave the space. We have created a bold environment of restaurant laminate floor but with strong red walls. the actors are all dressed in monochrome greys and blacks with subtle changes between characters so that the palette always remains the same and the similarities across the generations can read for the audience.  Great reviews in The Independent and the Telegraph and Public Reviews. The last one really understood the design !
