Fit up of Antony and Cleopatra

So often when designing for the Swan  in Stratford the set has to be made to work in a rep with other shows and so floors are shared and everything has to turn around in 2 hours. The joy of this process is we can really install in the space , blend into it and use elements that would be impossible in a rep. So i have a large pool of water in the u/s zone with a mirrored base in which sits a large blue curved paster wall. I can already see, a couple of days before the tec starts, that the water is going to give a beautifully evocative medium to chime with all the references to melting or discandying as Shakespeare calls it within the text. We have worked in great detail with the painter Chris Clark to try and create a stone surface that is both waterproof, grippy while wet in bare feet and also not shiny. I hope i have learnt from the experience of my Indian Much ado where the glaze on the stone effect floor made the surface treacherous for the final dance !
